Everybody is a cycling body.

At Prairie Velo, we believe that riding — or rolling — should be available to anyone who wants to feel the wind, move through their neighbourhood, and be part of the experience. That's why we carry a carefully selected range of adaptive cycles designed for people of all abilities, ages, and mobility needs.

Whether you're a parent searching for the right adaptive tricycle for your child, an adult living with reduced mobility who wants to get back on wheels, or a caregiver looking for a way to experience the outdoors together with someone you love — we're here to help you find the right fit.

We work with families, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and individuals across Canada. We take time with every customer, whether you visit us at our Winnipeg shop or connect by phone or email. These are personal, meaningful purchases, and we treat them that way.

We ship adaptive bikes and cycles across Canada.

Brands We Carry

Adaptive Tricycles — for Kids and Adults of All Abilities

Adaptive trikes — sometimes called special needs tricycles or disability trikes — are three-wheeled cycles built for riders who find a traditional two-wheeled bike difficult or impossible to ride safely. Whether the challenge relates to balance, muscle tone, coordination, trunk support, or another physical or developmental consideration, an adaptive tricycle opens up the experience of cycling to people who might otherwise be left out of the ride.

We carry adaptive trikes for children from age two through to adult models for riders 18 and up. Each size range is matched carefully to developmental stage and body proportion — not just height — so that every rider gets the support and fit they actually need. Many of our trikes are also available with electric assist for riders who need a bit more support on longer outings.

The physical benefits of adaptive cycling are real. Regular riding can support improved joint motion, muscle development and tone, cardiovascular health, core strength, and coordination. For children with disabilities including cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and developmental delays, time on an adaptive trike isn't just fun — it can be an important part of their physical therapy program.

The emotional and social benefits matter just as much. An adaptive trike lets a child ride alongside siblings, classmates, or friends. It lets a teenager participate in activities that build confidence and independence. These are experiences that a lot of families have been told weren't possible — and we love being part of changing that.

Our trike lineup includes models from some of the world's leading adaptive cycle manufacturers, including VanRaam, Tomcat, Huka, and Trivel. We'll help you understand which frame, support features, and size range make sense for the rider you have in mind. If your child's occupational therapist or physiotherapist has been involved in the process, we're happy to work with them directly.

Transport Bikes — Cycling Together

Transport bikes — also called companion cycles or tandem bikes for disabled passengers — are designed so that one person pedals and steers while another person rides along as a passenger. The passenger may pedal actively, pedal passively, or simply enjoy the ride without pedalling at all. Many models are available with electric assist, making longer rides or hillier terrain more accessible for both rider and passenger.

These bikes exist because the experience of cycling together is something that many people with disabilities, mobility impairments, or limited stamina haven't been able to have. That changes with a transport bike. Whether you're a family wanting to include every member in an outdoor adventure, a caregiver at a care home or long-term care facility, or two people who simply want to ride side by side — a transport bike makes it possible.

Walking Bikes — Move More, with Less Strain

Walking bikes — also known as adult balance bikes, running bikes for adults, or mobility bikes — are a category that most people haven't heard of, but that can genuinely change someone's daily life. They're designed for people who have difficulty walking or standing for extended periods: people managing joint pain, Parkinson's, MS, arthritis, post-surgical recovery, or other conditions affecting mobility and stamina.

Unlike a conventional bicycle, a walking bike has no pedals, no chain, and no gears. The rider sits on a saddle and propels themselves using a natural walking motion, with both feet in contact with the ground at all times. The bike's frame supports their weight and takes the load off hips, knees, and ankles — making it possible to move farther and more comfortably than a rollator or walker might allow. For many people, a walking bike means being able to keep up with a partner on a stroll, visit a farmer's market, or explore a park trail again.

We carry the Sollso line of walking bikes, designed in Germany and built to an exceptionally high standard. They're ultra-lightweight — the Agile weighs under 12 pounds — and fold compactly for easy transport in a car, on a bus, or on a plane. Unlike many mobility aids, they're designed to look good: sleek, minimalist, and non-medical in appearance.

Rollators & Walkers

Prairie Velo is the recognized Canadian dealer for two of the world's leading rollator brands: byACRE and Rollz. These are not the heavy, clunky walkers that most people picture. They're lightweight, beautifully designed mobility aids that help you get out more, go further, and feel good doing it.

We carry all models in every colour and size, and ship across Canada within 3–4 business days. We also stock replacement parts and our mechanics offer hands-on support when something needs attention.

byACRE — The World's Lightest Walkers

byACRE is a Danish company that set out to make rollators people actually want to use. Their carbon fibre frames are sleeker and lighter than anything else on the market, and their design has earned recognition from the Red Dot Award — one of the world's most respected product design honours. The look is simple, non-medical, and distinctly not-hospital-corridor.

We hear this from customers again and again: picking up a byACRE rollator for the first time is a surprise. They are that much lighter than what people expect.

Rollz — Rollators That Think Ahead

Rollz is a Dutch brand known for one big idea: what if your rollator could also become a wheelchair when you needed it? Their 2-in-1 designs mean you walk with the support of a rollator and, when you've reached your limit, unfold it into a wheelchair and keep going — without needing a separate piece of equipment or a second person to carry something.

For people with MS, Parkinson's, or other conditions where walking capacity varies day to day or hour to hour, this kind of flexibility is genuinely meaningful.

Why these brands?

Most rollators in Canadian pharmacies and medical supply stores are functional but uninspiring. They're heavy, they look clinical, and — as more than one of our customers has told us — they make people feel worse about needing support rather than better.

We chose byACRE and Rollz because they take the opposite approach. Their products are designed with the same care as any premium consumer product: attention to weight, ergonomics, aesthetics, and the actual experience of using them every day. You deserve a mobility aid that makes you want to get outside — not one that signals defeat.

These are personal purchases. We take time with every customer to understand what they need, how they move, and what will actually work in their life. Call or email us and we'll help you figure it out.
